C. Vernon Lawson is
a named member of Matthews Lawson, PLLC. He has over 27 years experience in
practicing civil litigation, with an emphasis intellectual property law,
including patent, trademark, trade dress, copyright with an emphasis on litigation
of patent and other IP disputes such as trademark, trade dress copyright and
unfair competition claims. He has experience litigating patent cases in the
U.S. District Courts for the Eastern District of Texas, as well as in other
federal district courts throughout Texas and in other states. Mr. Lawson
also has experience providing advice and counsel concerning protection,
licensing and commercialization of client intellectual property rights, and in
providing intellectual property infringement and validity opinions,
assistance with licensing and technology issues or transfers, client
counseling, and resolving complex business disputes through alternative
resolution methods such as arbitration or mediation.
Mr.
Lawson holds a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from the University of Houston
and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of the State of New York.
He has a technical background in electronic, mechanical, fluid and power
generation systems, instrumentation and controls, having served as an
instructor and maintenance supervisor in the U.S. Navy's nuclear power program.
Mr. Lawson has been
licensed to practice law since 1986. He is admitted to practice before all
Texas courts, as well as the federal district courts for the Southern, Eastern,
Northern and Western Districts of Texas, and the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the
Fifth and Federal Circuits. He is experienced in a variety of civil, commercial
and intellectual property litigation, including patent, trade secret, and contract
disputes, business torts, insurance, consumer claims and other types of civil
litigation.
Mr. Lawson represents
both plaintiffs and defendants under a variety of arrangements, including on an
hourly basis, a contingency-fee basis or some hybrid or variation of the two as
appropriate for the particular needs or circumstances of a particular client or
case. Mr. Lawson and his colleagues at Matthews Lawson have been
instrumental in representing the firm's clients in a variety of intellectual
property disputes over the years and are experienced in a wide range of
technologies, including tools and equipment for oilfield exploration, drilling,
monitoring, completion, control, production and workover, wireless
communication and monitoring technologies, internet-based services, medical
instrumentation and devices, computer accessories, process instrumentation and
software.
Mr. Lawson is a member of the State Bar of Texas, the
Houston Intellectual Property Lawyers Association, the Garland R. Walker
American Inn of Court, and the Coastal Conservation Association.
