Derek Battisti is a patent agent with Matthews, Lawson & Johnson and focuses primarily on the litigation of Intellectual Property and Commercial disputes. He is proficient in drafting memorandum and motions involving a variety of IP and Commercial litigation issues. He is also proficient in prosecuting patent applications before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
Prior to joining the firm, Derek was a law clerk intern for the Honorable Judge Ron Clark of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas. He also clerked for a Houston based intellectual property firm where he focused on IP litigation providing patentability searches, opinions, and infringement analysis. Derek has also received his mediation certificate through the A.A. White Dispute Resolution Center.
Derek earned his Bachelor of Science in Manufacturing Engineering and Technology with a minor in Business Management from Brigham Young University. Derek will receive his Juris Doctorate in 2011 from the University of Houston Law Center where he is a member of the Giles Rich Moot Court Team. Prior to entering law school, Derek worked as a patent engineer drafting and prosecuting patent applications including utility, provisional, and design applications.
